About
About Abdera — Western Harbour at Bulustra West (Thrace West Harbour)
Western harbour at Bulustra peninsula west of Abdera's Teian harbour in Thrace on Nestos delta coastal lagoon, where the Klazomenian/Teian colony's western anchorage now lies 1–3 m submerged west of the peninsula tombolo. Distinct from the submerged Archaic harbour (Avdira central basin) general locus in wave-6, this western basin preserves a 55 m Archaic rubble mole at –2 m, 40 m Classical quay repair at –1.5 m and Klazomenian wall bastion base at –1 m surveyed by 2014 Greek Ephorate diving and sediment cores. Founded c. 654 BCE by Klazomenai, refounded 545 BCE by Teos, western harbour handled Aegean wine and Thracian hinterland until 4th c. CE. Bastion guarded lagoon mouth.
Why it mattersWest harbour proves dual-basin Abdera (west lagoon vs east sea roadstead); mole Tend dates Teian refoundation after Klazomenian failure and Thracian relations.
