About Amara West Temple Town — Ramesside Center
Amara West walled town on island 70 km north of Sai: palatial administrative capital of Kush under viceroy (King's Son of Kush) from Seti I to Ramesses IX. Excavated by Egypt Exploration Society Buhen, now Neal Spencer British Museum 2008–: temple of Ramesses II, grid houses, palace, cemeteries C and D with pyramid chapels for viceroy's officials. Paleo-Islands study shows Nile shift isolating island. Demonstrates Ramesside state urbanism at southern limit. Bone pathology shows sickle-cell and dietary stress.
