About
About Anta de Pavia Chapel
Christianized dolmen — Neolithic anta (c.4000 BCE) converted in 17th century into small chapel of São Brissos with Christian stone altar inside antechamber; seven 3 m granite orthostats and capstone remain whitewashed as chapel walls, with white chapel annex attached. Unique synthesis of megalithic and folk Catholic architecture in Alentejo. National Monument since 1910, rare preserved example of reuse.
