About

About Antiochia ad Maeandrum – Silted Maeander Harbour at Kuyucak

Antiochia ad Maeandrum, Seleucid refoundation on the Maeander south bank, used a river harbour now 18 km inland silted 8 m above sea at Kuyucak. Rayet–Brückner cores traced ashlar river quay 80 m buried 5 m under cotton fields at 37.872°N 28.571°E, and silted river channel with 2nd c. BCE anchor stones. Harbour vanished after medieval Maeander avulsion that shifted river 3 km north; the plain's 3000-year progradation sequence anchors Maeander delta. Harbour warehouses on tell now 45 m asl mark former sea-linked port.

Why it mattersOnly Maeander inland river harbour with tilled quay; cores anchor Maeander progradation and inland navigation loss.
