About Ayn Sukhna — Galala Northern Anchorage Gallery
Northern reef anchorage of Ayn Sukhna under Galala Plateau northern cliffs, a 60-m fringing reef channel at 2–5 m depth with a rock-cut ramp 16 m long for hauling Sinaitic copper-laden boats, and 6 gallery niches 8–10 m long cut into the reef limestone for storing mining tools (copper chisels, Dolerite pounders). The channel breach is lined with Old Kingdom pottery (Meidum bowls) dating 2580–2450 BCE (Khufu–Userkaf), synchronous with southern gallery harbour.
The Galala cliffs provided flint mines that supplemented Sinai turquoise-copper trade; the anchorage's lee sheltered vessels from northerly Etesian gale. Post-Old Kingdom regression (+1 m) drained the channel to intertidal, but neotectonic subsidence re-flooded it to 2 m.
