Type-site Hamangia culture (c.5250–4550 BCE, Middle Neolithic–Early Chalcolithic) on Goloviţa lagoon: low tell plus flat cemetery famous for 'The Thinker' (Gânditorul) and Woman seated figurines — most iconic Balkan Neolithic sculpture. Berciu & Nestor excavations (1953, 1960s) uncovered Baia tell with Hamangia I–IV monochrome pottery, obsidian blades, and cemetery at Cernavodă-Baia with crouched burials and Hamangia marble idols. Lagoon fishing-gatherer villages bridging Anatolian Neolithic to Varna.
