Iron-curtain city of 10,000+ (11th–18th c) at Akan–Niger gold, kola, cloth and Saharan salt crossroads. Four quarters (Brong, Kramo/Muslim, Dwinfuor, Nyarko) each 5 ha with distinct wares, glass, and brass casting. Crucible steel and ivory workshops. Collapsed after Asante–Gyaman wars.
