About Cantalloc Puquios Aqueducts

Best preserved of 36 Nazca puquios - spiral wind-dug filtration galleries up to 15 m deep and 600 m long intercepting aquifer fed by Andean runoff; 3D stone spiral puquio eye (ojo) with stepped stones allowing descent to water channel below still flowing after 1,400 years. Built 300 BCE–400 CE by Nazca to irrigate desert pampas after post-Tiahuanaco drought. Puquios concept parallels Persian qanats hypothesis but local evolution proven.

Why it mattersOnly pre-Inca subterranean filtration aqueduct in Americas; convergent evolution with qanat.
