About
About Chechar
Early Ganga Neolithic–Chalcolithic hamlet (c.2000–600 BCE) at Chechar–Kutubpur in Vaishali district on the Ganga north bank — excavated 1977–79 by Ranjit Singh and later BHU teams, yielded buried hut floors with mud plaster, corded Neolithic ware, Narhan culture black-and-red ware, copper and early iron, plus rice and wheat botanicals. Chechar is pivotal as Ganga plain Neolithic bridge: microliths with bone points, handmade pottery and later NBPW, showing transition from Lahuradewa–Senuwar foragers to Mauryan Vaishali urbanism just 12 km from Vaishali stupa.
Why it mattersGanga levee Neolithic bridging Lahuradewa to Mauryan Vaishali — shows Ganga village → city without Harappan stimulus.
