About Foggaras of the Touat (Adrar–Reggane Foggaras)

Touat central Saharan foggara corridor 180 km Adrar–Reggane (280 m) between Gourara north and Tidikelt south, Algerian Sahara's densest foggara ensemble: 84 active foggaras (2020) total 140 km gallery, 3,200 shafts 6–22 m deep every 9 m, irrigating 2,800 ha Adrar palm belt and ksour. Gallery sections in Touat limestone 0.7×1.4 m with gypsum plaster; seguia channels 14 km with siphon aqueduct over Oued Adrar. Oldest Touat foggaras 11th c. (Sanhaja) with 14th c. Jewish engineer text. System still supplies 70% of Adrar oasis water despite diesel competition; communal ti'me-share clock.
