About Hormiguero Structure II Pyramid

Most theatrical Rio Bec city (650–850 CE peak) with Structure II central 8-chamber palace-pyramid 12 m high, Structure V twin-tower pyramid and mask façades. Structure II north edge plan is complex palace over platform with monster-mouth portal (7 m wide Witz mask) and side towers false stairs. Sculptural chromatic palette studies show red-yellow-blue stucco masks. Found Ruppert-Dennison 1933, excavated Enrique Nalda et al. Most completely excavated Rio Bec building and most 'wildly theatrical' per Ruppert.
