About Hwangnam Daechong (Twin Tombs)
Hwangnam Daechong — largest Silla royal twin mound tomb (5th–6th c CE, Silla middle period) 800 m south Wolseong palace, Gyeongju Tumuli Park, excavated 1973–75 Cultural Heritage Administration (Gyeongju Institute). Hwangnam Daechong consists of north (Silla queen?) and south (Silla king?) joined mounds: north 23 m high 80 m dia, south 22 m high 82 m dia, combined 120 m long with wooden chambers. Yields gold crown (National Treasure 191), gold girdle, glass beads, and horse harness — richest Silla grave. Part of UNESCO Gyeongju Historic Areas 2000 (Hwangnam Tumuli). Silla capital Gyeongju (57 BCE–935 CE).
