About
About Jorwe
Jorwe — type-site of Jorwe culture (1400–700 BCE late Chalcolithic) on Pravara River, excavated 1950–51 by H.D. Sankalia and B. Deo. Jorwe ware (matt-painted black-on-red with geometric, late Jorwe degenerated) defines Deccan Chalcolithic sequence after Malwa: Early Jorwe (1400–1000) large houses → Late Jorwe (1000–700) dispersed hamlets. Houses wattle-and-daub 6×4 m with storage bins, copper tools, spindle whorls, and channel spouted bowls. Largest Jorwe settlement 35 ha at Jorwe mound with adjacent cemetery (urn burials). Represents semi-arid Deccan Chalcolithic climax.
