About
About Khao Sam Kaeo
500 BCE–300 CE) at the Isthmus of Kra near Chumphon, Peninsular Thailand — 55 ha hillock city with four enclosures, excavated 2005–09 by Berenice Bellina et al. (CNRS–Silpakorn French–Thai). Khao Sam Kaeo yields trans-peninsular trade evidence: India (etched carnelian, Rouletted Ware, Tamil-Brahmi sherds 400 BCE), Han Chinese (mirror, Qin coin), glass – steatite and high-tin bronze foundry (14% tin, unique Kruśa type) sourcing Vilabouly and peninsular tin, plus Buddhism (early Tamil inscription).
Proves Indian–Thai–Han globalization 400 BCE predating Oc Eo Funan by 500 years and linking to Non Pa Wai copper belt via Isthmus portage.
Why it mattersGlass–high-tin Isthmus port before Oc Eo — Khao Sam Kaeo + Ban Don Ta Phet prove Indian–Thai–Han globalization 400 BCE, Tamil-Brahmi earliest in SEA (400 BCE).
