About Kom Ombo Temple
Unique double temple perfectly symmetrical on Nile bluff, dedicated jointly to falcon Haroeris (Horus the Elder) and crocodile Sobek – two parallel sanctuaries, courts, colonnades and entrances for mirror clergy. Built 180 BCE Ptolemy VI to 47 CE. Outer relief of surgical instruments (forceps, scalpels, prosthetics) is early medical documentation; nilometer and calendar frieze. Mammisi (birth house) of Ptolemy VIII. Forecourt leads to Hathor chapel with 300 crocodile mummies at Animal Necropolis. Riverside kiosk. Views to Nile crocodile pools explanation.
Why it mattersOnly double temple in Egypt demonstrates Ptolemaic theological syncretism and Graeco-Roman medical imagery.
