La Corona in Petén, Guatemala is a Early to Late Classic (520 – 790 CE) ancient city attributed to Maya (Kaanul vassal) culture. Site Q – source of 30 looted panels: 1997 rediscovered; 2012 La Corona Block 5 revealed 790 CE panel extending Tortuguero prophecy. Key to Kaanul-Tikal war. Systematic excavation and published survey document stratified deposits, architectural phasing and georeferenced plans. Built c.520 CE; purpose: Kaanul (Snake) ally and sculpted-panel archive of Classic politics. Significance includes multi-phase occupation and landscape setting at 220 m elevation.
