Massive Scythian hillfort (205 ha) deep in Kholodnyi Yar oak forest near Chyhyryn, with massive earthen ramparts 8 m high enclosing sacred settlement and cemetery. Excavated by M. Pokrovska, centre of Motronyn ironworking — slag and furnaces. Associated with Scythian prince burials and later Cossack lore (Motronyn Monastery). Second only to Belsk in size.
