About M'Zab Valley — Ibadite Fortified Ksar Valley
M'Zab Valley is the intact 11th c Ibadite Pentapolis 480 m deep limestone hamada: 5 fortified ksour (Ghardaïa, Beni Isguen, El Atteuf, Melika, Bou Noura) each on hill with pyramidal mosque-minaret, concentric houses and palm foggara oasis 8×3 km. Founded 1012–1350 by Rustumid Ibadite refugees avoiding Fatimid persecution, urban plan still lived by Mozabites (45,000). UNESCO 1982 criteria ii, iii, v. Foggaras allocate water by auction; architecture Le Corbusier model.
Why it mattersOnly surviving Ibadite city-system; living medieval urban-social model.
