About Phanagoria — Kuban Delta Western Harbour Mole
5 m of deltaic sand. Magnetometry and 2016 vibra-coring revealed oak piles (radiocarbon 280–120 BCE) driven into lagoon clay, capped by limestone rubble crown. Associated is a silted channel (palaeo-Kuban) 22 m wide traced by GeoEye-1 and coring, whose levees contain Late Classical Black-glazed sherds. The structure plausibly served the riverine import of Kuban timber and grain while the eastern bay harbour handled sea trade, illustrating dual-mode Bosporan logistics.
Progressive delta progradation and 1st c. CE subsidence abandoned the channel; medieval Taman settlement reused mole stones.
