Promachon-Topolniča in Central Macedonia, Serres regional unit, Strymon valley (Greek-Bulgarian border) is a Balkan Chalcolithic tell — Gumelnița-Karanovo VI graphite-painted village (c.4500 BCE) with tell architecture, salt-production debris (Provadia-Solnitsata network) and EBA reoccupation. Part of the Lower Danube-Thracian tell chain with Hotnitsa, Pietrele, Hârşova and Sultana-Malu Roșu already in the Europe group but as a distinct mound documenting the Danube plain variation.
Why it mattersBalkan Danube Chalcolithic type-site linking Varna-Hotnitsa salt-copper network to Vinča-Bubanj Hum tell development.
