About
About Rio Bec Structure V Central Pyramid
Type-site of Rio Bec architectural style (550–850 CE): dispersed low pyramids 10–20 m with twin solid towers and false stairs, vaulted palace chambers, and roofcombs — Structure V (5N2 Group A) is paradigmatic palace-pyramid: 30×22 m platform with two side towers and 13 rooms in two palatial entities (north long tower-framed, south segmented). No true temples, only elite palaces mimicking pyramid-temples. Photogrammetrically mapped by French CNRS Rio Bec project (Michelet, Arnauld). Region has 5ון palace-pyramid groups separated by forest.
Why it mattersDefines Rio Bec architectural style (twin-tower false pyramid-palace) vs Chenes and Puuc; shows Maya low-density dispersed palace city model.
