About
About Sammallahdenmäki Bronze Age Cairn Field
Bronze Age burial site on a forested ridge uplifted from the sea near Rauma, inscribed UNESCO 1999. Thirty-six granite cairns (1500–500 BCE) are scattered across the Sammallahdenmäki hill, including circular mounds 10–16 m diameter and unusual oval 'church floor' cairn Pirunpesä. Built as sea receded due to post-glacial uplift, the cairns illustrate Bronze Age funerary traditions of the Finnish coast with minimal excavation to preserve integrity.
Why it mattersKey Scandinavian Bronze Age — Finnish coastal site in Satakunta.
