Periplus Tagara — Satavahana–Roman emporium (c.300 BCE–400 CE) on Terna river in Marathwada — walled city 40 ha with brick rampart and Roman amphorae horde excavated 1970s by V.P. Bopardikar: Ter yielded India's largest Roman antiquities outside Arikamedu — 50+ amphorae (Dressel 2–4), coral and glass beads, 200+ lead Satavahana coins, late Indo-Roman Ter ivories (1 c. CE) including Ter female figurine with Roman coiffure, and Hindu temple foundation showing terracotta and ivory workshop. Periplus of Erythraean Sea (c.60 CE) lists Tagara as exporter of muslin to Romans via Paithan–Nanaghat–Ter route.
Why it mattersPeriplus Tagara proven — largest Roman find in Deccan interior; Ter ivory with Roman coiffure is iconic Indo-Roman art.
