Terqa (Tell Ashara) in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, Middle Euphrates, Syria is a Old Babylonian to Neo-Assyrian (2000–600 BCE) tell of Amorite–Mitanni tradition. Middle Euphrates city of Dagan cult and Khana archive, neighbor to Mari. 2000 BCE, the site forms a stratified mound/karst tell 20 ha, citadel 5 ha, palace 80×60 m, ninkarrak temple. Excavations since the mid-20th c. expose mudbrick palace with cuneiform archive, ninkarrak temple stone foundations architecture with diagnostic ceramics, lithics and administrative finds.
Archaeobotany and radiocarbon anchor the sequence, informing regional Amorite–Mitanni networks across the Deir ez-Zor Governorate. Threats include military conflict, erosion, looting; research continues on Amorite–Mitanni chronology.
