Augustean veteran colonia on the Bagradas-Tusca frontier, Thuburnica preserves a 2 km Roman bridge (over Oued el-Khlebs), capitol temple, baths, Christian basilica with mosaic baptistery, and olive-press quarter. Founded for Marius' veterans, later Augustan colonia. Bridge piers 8 m high with opus quadratum arches; forum inscriptions mention curiae and flamines. Punic tumuli underlie. Excavated by Carton (1892) and recent Tunisian-INP.
