About Tilbeşar (Tell Tilbeshar)
Fortified 56 m mound (c.7 ha) between Sajur and Euphrates with Neo-Assyrian identity as Azâ (Aza) — Assyrian provincial capital linked to Til Barsip/Kar-Shalmaneser. French excavations (Kepinski-Lecomte, Bordeaux-Bilkent) 1994–2013 reveal EBA III–MBA II→Neo-Hittite→Assyrian levels: MBA moat, Hellenistic-Roman casemate wall, Uruk period precursor. Assyrian palace, cuneiform archive and imported Cypriot ceramics buried under glacis. Frontier tell clarifying Bronze–Iron transition between Carchemish and Euphrates corridor.
Why it mattersNeo-Assyrian provincial type-site Azâ on Sajur–Euphrates; missing link between Carchemish and Ebla corridors.
