Visby City Walls (Ringmuren) — Hanseatic medieval town wall (late 13th–14th c, with 12th c earth predecessor) encircling Visby Old Town 3.4 km circumference, 11 m high, 27 towers, 3 gates (Norderport, Österport, Söderport), 3.4 km preserved — Scandinavia's best preserved medieval walls. Excavated? Maintained heritage: Gotland limestone ashlar, Hanseatic 1361 Valdemar Atterdag battle before walls (memento cross). UNESCO 731 (1995) Hanseatic Town of Visby with walls, warehouses, St Mary's. Seaward wall low (iconic Kruttornet 1160 earliest). Inner harbour Almedalen. Gotland Hanseatic = ‘novus Gothlandia’.
