About
About Wadi Al-Ghadf Kites (Azraq South Ghadf Depression)
Ghadf depression kite chain 18 km southeast of Azraq oasis (540 m) on Qa' al-Azraq southern salt margin. Comprises 4 kites on depression edge where 8 m high caliche bluff acts as natural wall—only one guiding wall built per kite (single-arm kites). Pens 16–28 m shallow with single 1.2 m pit; opposite wall is natural bluff face 40–60 m long. Uses depression hydrology: kites trap gazelles drawn to Azraq springs southward migration. Walls of marl 25 cm plastered white for visibility on dark playa edge. Dated 6200–5000 BCE.
Why it mattersOnly single-arm (natural bluff) kite variant in Azraq basin; water-proximal.
