About Western Deffufa at Kerma
Massive Classic Kerma mudbrick sacred mountain (c.1750–1500 BCE) in Kerma capital: 52×52 m base, 19 m high preserved with three-stage stairway on east, internal rooms with timber roofs, and ritual ovens. Solid massif with plastered façades and temple on top (now eroded). Part of Kerma urban complex 10 ha with Eastern Deffufa funerary chapel 400 m southeast and residential quarters. Excavated Bonnet-Reisner 1913–14 and Bonnet Swiss mission 1970s–2000s. Largest pre-Egyptian mudbrick sacred architecture in Nubia.
