About Zabalam (Tell Ibzeikh) – Sumerian Temple Harbour on Iturungal
Zabalam – Sumerian temple city of Inanna Zabalam (É-zabala), Early Dynastic–Ur III administrative centre on the Iturungal canal linking Lagash and Umma, whose canal harbour handled Lagash temple estates' barley. Robert McC. Adams' survey and Woolley's soundings revealed canal harbour revetment (bitumen-coated mudbrick 40 m) at –2 m, temple podium (Utuhegal inscription) and Ur III tablet archive 200 tablets. The Iturungal now a silted palaeochannel 300 m north of tell with harbour mud. Zabalam's boundary stelae (kudurru) marked Enmetena's Lagash–Umma border.
