Island fortress capital of the Pannonian Slavic principality (Mosapurc–Blatnograd) built by exiled Nitra prince Pribina as Frankish vassal 839 and his son Kocel on Lake Balaton islet, with three timber ramparts, Hadrian's 30×17 m three-aisled basilica (largest 9th-c church north of Alps) and John the Baptist basilica. Visited by Cyril and Methodius 867. Excavated by Szőke. Frankish–Moravian–Bulgarian diplomatic nexus.
