150-km sandstone cliff 400 m high trending northeast, Bandiagara Escarpment holds 700 rock-shelter habitations in caves 50 m above talus plus live Dogon villages on scree: Tellem granaries 11th–16th c with anthropomorphic ladders and textiles preserved aridity, granaries 2 m mud tubes, shrines, and preceding Toloy caves 700 BCE–400 CE (Paleolake pottery). 2010 Swiss-UCL. Upon escarpment plateau Ogol, Tellem footpath network weaving cliffs. Sirig? UNESCO mixed site: Dogon cosmology with 218 villages. Rock art Tellem pigmented. White Tassili-like but living. Loot: Tellem sitting skeleton exposed in cliff proved mummies? Genetics.
