About

About Buraimi Aflaj System (Oman-UAE Border Oasis)

Cross-border aflaj network (320 m, 24°15′N 55°45′E Buraimi) extending the UNESCO Aflaj Irrigation Systems of Oman (1207, 2006) from Nizwa-Sharqiyah to the Hajar-Buraimi piedmont. Seven aini and ghayli falaj (Daudi) totalling 13 km, mother springs at Jebel Hafit limestone (Hafeet) feeding Buraimi date gardens with suspended subterranean aqueducts over Al-Ain gravels. Radiocarbon on tufa-encrusted channel floors gives Iron Age II 1000-600 BCE start, contemporary with Ganq subset but fed by Hajar fossil water, not Umm al-Nar. Buraimi's Al-Khatm round Haji period tombs nearby date use. Cross-border UAE-Oman water-sharing (Falaj Sulaymani) 1800 treaty codifies allocation by athar time-unit.

Why it mattersCross-border aflaj linking Omani UNESCO 1207 to Al Ain Hafit piedmont.
