About Dispilio Lake Settlement
Neolithic lakeside settlement on Lake Orestida near Kastoria, Western Macedonia, occupied c.5800–3000 BCE on timber piles and platforms. Excavations revealed houses with clay floors, hearths, musical instruments, fishing gear and the Dispilio Tablet — a 7260-year-old wood tablet with engraved signs controversially claimed as early script. The 7 m stratigraphy and palisade illustrate continuous Neolithic lake dwelling adaptation; reconstruction and eco-museum on site.
