Oldest human footprints outside Africa (850,000–950,000 BP, MIS 21 or 25) exposed for two weeks in May 2013 after storm erosion stripped beach sand: 152–155 impressions preserved in laminated estuarine mud on the Norfolk foreshore, representing a family group (adults + children) of Homo antecessor moving south along the ancient Thames estuary. Tracks range 13–26 cm implying stature 0.9–1.7 m, gait north–south, some overprinted. Intertidal mud also holds Cromerian mammalian fauna and flint; captured via 3D photogrammetry before tide destroyed them within fortnight—becoming iconic image of earliest Britannia. Associated Happisburgh handaxes are Britain's earliest (900k).
Why it mattersFirst evidence of hominins at northern Europe's edge 800k; pushes back Britain's occupation 350k years before Boxgrove; snapshot demography of Pleistocene family structure; landmark photogrammetry rescue.
