About Hormiguero

Chenés-south hybrid center (c.600–900 CE) 22 km east of Xpujil, with Structure II Chenés monster-mouth façade 30 m long on pyramid base, Structure V palace and ballcourt. Looting 1970s exposed friezes; INAH stabilized. Bridges Río Bec and Chenés styles at Bec valley southern terminus. Georeference 18.525°N -89.485°W. Investigation chronology and architecture as per Peru–Mexico survey consensus; extended description synthesizes excavation report dimensions and cultural phase via regional Atlas.
