About
About Kom el-Khilgan (Khilgan)
Predynastic village cemetery (Buto-Maadi and Naqada sequence) in Delta heartland, excavated IFAO Italian-French (Béatrix Midant-Reynes, Nathalie Buchez) 2001–. Shows Delta Late Chalcolithic Buto-Maadi houses with subterranean pit storage, and Naqada II-III graves interdigitated — evidence for contemporaneity of Lower and Upper Egyptian cultures c.3500 BCE before dynastic unification. First proof of Delta-centred Predynastic complexity independent of Naqada expansion. 1.2 ha low tell buried under cotton and fish-farm levelling.
Why it mattersRedefines Predynastic Egypt as two co-evolving cultures rather than Naqada conquest of passive Delta — interleaved stratigraphy decisive.

Theories

Theories are interpretations, not findings. The seal above tells you how much scholarly weight the place carries.
