About
About Sinki Small Step Pyramid — Abydos South
Compact three-step pyramid at Sinki near Nag el-Madabigh, 8 km south of Abydos: 12.1 m base, four steps originally limestone-faced, now 4 m ruin. Excavated by Nabil Swelim and Günter Dreyer (1980s) revealing seal impressions of Huni/Sneferu era, clay model and construction ramps. One of seven provincial minor step pyramids (Elephantine, Edfu South, El Kula, Naqada, Sinki, Seneferu, Zawyet el-Meytin, Seila) interpreted as cenotaphs or symbols of royal presence, not tombs — no burial chamber. Stratigraphy shows Old Kingdom foundation over Predynastic settlement. Demonstrates early 4th Dynasty administrative consolidation of Thinite region.
Why it mattersKey Ancient Egyptian (Huni/Sneferu) pyramid with stratified sequence and regional importance.
