About Syntas Kurgan Field (Aktobe Sarmatian Ridge)
Sarmatian (Sauromatian) ridge necropolis (265 m) on Syntas steppe ridge 38 km northeast of Aktobe city, Aktobe Region, West Kazakhstan. 4 km watershed crest between Ilek–Kobda interfluve, commanding spring line. Excavated Kurgan 3 (1988 Sarmatian 4th c BCE): catacomb chamber with flexed inhumation + 38 gold stamped appliqué (eagle griffins), bronze arrowheads, and imported Greek kylix sherd (Euxine trade).
