Vendel (Vendel parish Tierp) — boat-grave field (Vendel Period 550–790 + Viking 14 graves total 1881–83 H. Stolpe) on Vendelån at Vendel churchyard 35 km north Uppsala, eponymous type site of Vendel Period (550–800 post-Migration pre-Viking, Swedish Vendeltid) named after the site. 1881–83 Stolpe uncovered 14 elite boat graves with Vendel helmets, swords, shields (10th c Ottarshögen mound 29 m diam at Husby). Boat graves 9–10 m paralleled Valsgärde and Sutton Hoo; Vendel XIV helmet is icon of Vendel art (Style II–III). Vendel church later over cemetery 11th c. Historical Tiundaland Svear district.
