About Akhnur (Manda-Akhnur)
Akhnur–Manda — northernmost Harappan site (2600–1900 BCE) 28 km NW Jammu on Chenab at Pir Panjal foothills, excavated 1976–82 by J.P. Joshi (ASI Jammu). Manda (in Akhnur town) is 3-phase: Early Harappan with Kot Diji ware, Mature Harappan with Harappan red ware, copper, brick (ratio 1:2:4) and later Kushan–Gupta historic layers. Proves Harappan northern limit beyond Chenab. Adjacent Akhnur historic fort and Chenab ghat. Extends Harappan map 700 km north of Harappa, with Harappan seal and etched carnelian beads.
