About Band-e Darreh — Arch Dam of Birjand

20), built 1910–1930 via governors Heshmat al-Mulk Alam (Birjand Amirabad and Akbariye garden world UNESCO 16th c. Persian Garden component) on Band-e Darreh spring gully fed by Bagheran snowmelt. 12-m high 35 m crest arch (smallest functional arch in Khorasan arch chain after Kebar–Kurit–Golestan) impounds seasonal torrent for Birjand oasis gardens (Bagh-e Akbariye UNESCO Persian Garden 1372). 2-km extension canal/qanat hybrid feeds Birjand historic citadel Arg and bazaar gardens, integral to Amirabad Garden hydraulic.

Modern Birjand still relies on Band-e Darreh for garden irrigation; lower dam silted after 1970 flood but urban garden persists. , linking 1300 Mongol–Timurid to 1900 Qajar.

Why it mattersSmallest late arch in Persian garden hydraulic tradition extending Mongol arch (Kebar 1300) to 20th c., feeding UNESCO Persian Garden Akbariye.
