About
About Navekat (Krasnaya Rechka – Ak-Beshim West)
Second city of Chu Valley Sogdian triad (c.6–12 c. CE) at Krasnaya Rechka Navekat west field — 20 ha walled shahristan with Buddhist monastery (Navekat Buddha 3 m clay) and Nestorian cemetery north lobe excavated 1970s–90s by P.N. Kozhemyako and L. Semashko, distinct from Suyab (Ak-Beshim) east 18 km and Burana (Balasagun) east 30 km. Navekat is the only Chu Valley site with overlapping Sogdian–Karakhanid phase lacking Suyab's early Turkic khagan palace, proving Sogdian commercial city continuity while Suyab became khaganate capital. Part of UNESCO Silk Roads: Chang'an–Tianshan Corridor ID 1442-008/009.
Why it mattersChu Valley's second Sogdian city proving twin-city Sogdian–khagan specialization (Suyab = khagan, Navekat = merchant) within UNESCO triad.
