About Toricos — Gelendzhik Roadstead Harbour at Toretae Cape (Gelendzhik East)
Eastern roadstead of Toricos (Toretai) at Gelendzhik Bay Tonkiy Cape, where the Bosporan coastal harbour now lies 2–4 m submerged. Distinct from western Toricos-Toretai harbour already in database, this eastern roadstead preserves 60 m timber-stone quay at –3 m, roadstead anchor scatter at –4 m and coastal watchtower base at –1.5 m mapped 2016 Gelendzhik diving. Mentioned in Arrian's Periplus as Toretae anchorage, the harbour served Bosporan cabotage and Sindian timber export from 5th c. BCE to 4th c. CE. Cores show harbour mud with Sinope roof tiles at 2.5 m depth.
Why it mattersEastern roadstead proves Toricos dual-anchorage; quay timber dates calibrate Sindica coastal cabotage network and Gelendzhik Bay sea-level.
