Zawila (Zuwayla) in Fezzan is a medieval Garamantian–Islamic oasis city, 8th–15th c. capital after Germa (Garama) decline. Vast mudbrick ksar 1 km² with thick pisé walls, corrugated facades, mosques and caravan funduqs. Trans-Saharan gold and slave terminus linking Lake Chad via Tassili wadis. Ibn Hawqal notes vibrant Berber–Kanem bazaar 10th c. Abandoned for Murzuq after 15th c. Tuareg shift. Embodies Garamantian hydraulics' Islamic continuation.
